Community Commitments
Smurfit-Stone bears responsibility to multiple communities – our employee community, the investment community and, and the local communities in which we operate.
The various benefit and safety programs we utilize serve to maximize productivity and reduce turnover. Some companies might choose not to openly recognize that fact, just as they shy away from recognizing they are for-profit enterprises that need to make money while acting sustainable. But the business and healthcare communities have long recognized the bottom line impact of preventing rather than treating illness and injury.
Our involvement in various associations and their respective committees, including the FBA, the AF&PA, NCASI, allows us to share and sustainability best practices. A prime example would be our involvement in refining the Wal-Mart sustainable packaging scorecard to more accurately reflect various packaging life cycle nuances.
