Pandemic Preparedness

H1N1 Flu

Smurfit-Stone has formed a cross-functional Pandemic Response Team that meets on a regular basis to prepare for potential emergencies that could develop as a result of a global pandemic, including the H1N1 flu.

We are reviewing our internal disaster preparedness plan and updating it to include a pandemic response.  We are confident that our plans will protect our employees, support the continuity of our operations, and enable us to continue meeting the needs of our customers.

Smurfit-Stone operates facilities across the United States that can operate on extended hours to support the needs of our customers in the event that one or more locations are adversely impacted by a pandemic outbreak.

Quick Tips to Stay Healthy

  • Stay informed. This page will be updated regularly to provide you with accurate, timely information.
  • Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
  • Take everyday actions to stay healthy.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
  • Stay home if you get sick. Please stay home from work and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
  • Follow public health advice by avoiding crowds and practicing social distancing measures.
  • Find healthy ways to deal with stress and anxiety.
